seabird hunts over
hammered silver waves
splash! another dent

—Bettina Davis

This haiku was written during a recent vacation to Whidbey Island for a writing workshop. Whidbey Island is located in Puget Sound, off the coast of Seattle, Washington.

About the author: I've been been writing haiku since the third grade, but I've been actively studying the form for about a year. I find the precision and presence of haiku very appealing. I also write articles, short stories and other kinds of poetry. I have been published in The Jade Dragon, San Diego Writer's Monthly, Algonquin West, Limestone Circle and Cotelydon.

    silver capped waves -
    no rest for the weary
